The cover for NME2

Just as was the case with NME1, the cover of New Malaysian Essays 2 features a work by a living Malaysian artist. (click to enlarge!)

The book will launch early next month, Insya-Allah, and it will be the thickest and most expensive Matahari Books title so far, but a free copy goes to the first person who can identify the artist*, name of artwork and year!

Just post your answers here (with your name) and we will get it all sorted.

* The artist is not allowed to take part.

  6. 10 essays as opposed to 6. Average length probably shorter than NME1. Erm, paper should be of similar thickness :-)

  8. to be more precise, it's
    HARI JADI (2/4)
    by Yee I-Lann
    Year: 2002

I think it's 1 of 4 artwork from the Malaysiana Series which the artist did in collaboration with Pakard Photo Studio.

  14. What a stunning cover! Brilliant idea! Who's the art director, let me kiss his feet.

  15. Are those original vintage pictures bought from one old-time photo studio? Or new shots, art directed?

    Either way, it's brilliant.

  16. Do come to the book launch on 4 July and you can meet both the artist and designer. Both are women but surely not averse to having their feet kissed!

  18. Oh, OK...Yee I-Lann! Of course!

I will gladly kiss her feet if she can sell me the full size photographic print!

The layout is OK only. But the photos are so cute, can die.
