Punggok in Pusan
I will be making my first trip to the Pusan International Film Festival on the second day of Hari Raya, Insya-Allah.
I have screened there before (Apa Khabar Orang Kampung last year) but couldn't make it because we were shooting Punggok Rindukan Bulan.
Now, it is Punggok Rindukan Bulan that will be screened. The director Azharr Rudin will be there, too, of course. There will also be some other Malaysian films: Muallaf (Yasmin Ahmad), Sell Out! (Yeo Joon Han) and the world premiere of Cicak-Man 2 (in a special section on Asian super-heroes).
Say kimchi!

i was reading about PRB in the Star this am and azharr rudin was quoted as saying that he had wanted to use a p.ramlee song in the movie but it wasn't affordable and hence the movie is sans music.
but in bissme's article in the Sun, Azhaar said that was no music because he wanted the audience to think and not be distracted by the music, 'to trust their own emotional intelligence'.
i would like to think that the first reason is correct and the subsequent explanation in the Sun is just a rationalisation.
which brings me to a question. how much would using the p ramlee song/ music have cost?
There was never supposed to be music IN the movie. The P Ramlee song, "Engkau Laksana Bulan", which would have cost about RM15,000, was supposed to be for the closing credits :-)
15K!
that's a lot of money.
there are some film-makers who can make a docu for 10K or less. :)
btw, who owns the copyright? astroTV i believe owns p ramlee movies. guess that would mean the songs too?
EMI Music.
