'Apa Khabar Orang Kampung' DVD now on sale

Yes, my documentary is now on sale courtesy of Singapore's Objectifs Films. It is without cuts and rated NC16 (not suitable for those below 16).

It can be ordered from anywhere around the world here.

I don't want to buy a pirated copy. Any chance of getting it from a local store?

As it's banned in Malaysia, no local store will carry the original. So piracy is not such a bad thing after all :-)

Congrats, Amir. I'll be getting a copy. Interesting that the Thai soap opera is based on Shakespeare's _A Winter's Tale_. I was in that play once! I played Hermione, the wronged queen :-) .

Why is it not suitable for under 16, may I ask? Does it contain swear words or scenes involving toilet parts? We have pre-pubescent kids, is it wise to keep the DVD in our house? Our 11-year old son asked, "Did Awang Goneng use swear word when he gave the speech at the GUiT book launch? We assured him it wasn't a swear word, just a silly and pretentious brand.

I am not sure why it has that rating, actually. There are no swear words and the only nudity involves adolescents (!). Perhaps the theme of communism itself was the reason. In Singapore, you need to be 16 to watch it. In Malaysia, you are never old enough.

Hi Amir,

I'm a malaysian residing in Singapore.
Just wanna tell you that the DVD is sold in Gramaphone Singapore only recently.Just found it last Friday.Quite expensive I must say- SGD 22.But i bought it anyway. Love it, but couldn't quite understand the 2 short movies, care to tell me what is it about? :)

I saw another 45 mins movie made from Singapore in 2006 as well "I love Malaya"- with the same communists issue. DO you think it's any good?
Should I buy it? heheh
Thanks

You seem like someone who should get confused a bit more often.
